    JNAFAU Code of Conduct

    Code of conduct is a set of rules and regulations that stipulates the expected behaviour of all people on the campus. It provides a guide of behaviour to all stakeholders. The code of conduct draws from the mission, values and principles of JNAFAU, linking them with standards of professional conduct. The code is a central guide and reference for employees to support day-to-day decision-making. It encourages discussions of ethics and compliance, empowering employees to handle ethical dilemmas they encounter in everyday work.

    The JNAFAU Code of Conduct is divided into four sections:

    I. Code of Conduct for Teachers

      1. All the teachers shall carry out the legitimate academic and administrative decisions taken by the authorities of the University pertaining to their sphere of responsibility/ duties.
      2. They shall not discriminate against a student or any other staff member on political grounds, for reasons of race, religion, caste, language or sex or for other reason of an
        arbitrary or personal nature and shall not incite students/teachers against other students or other teachers, colleagues or administration/Governing body of the University.
      3. They shall not remain absent from duty without proper sanction of leave/prior intimation, except in case of emergency, keeping in view their particular responsibility
        for completion of academic schedule.
      4. They shall desist/refrain from indulging in unempirical publication which would prove to be detrimental to the reputation and the progress of the University.
      5. They may be permitted to take up consultancy under terms and conditions as outlined in the Consultancy Guidelines of JNAFAU as amended from time to time.
      6. Teachers shall co-operate in the formulation of policies of the institution by accepting various offices and discharge responsibilities which such offices may demand.
      7. They shall co-operate with the authorities for the betterment of the University keeping in view the interest and in conformity with dignity of the profession.
      8. They shall adhere to the conditions of contract/employment.
      9. They shall give and expect due notice before a change of position is made.
      10. They shall follow the rules stipulated by the University with regard to travel, leaves, and other instructions which may be issued by the University authorities from time to time.
      11. All faculty members of the University are bound by the standards of conduct applicable to their respective professions, if professional bodies have established such standards of
        conduct, in addition to the JNAFAU Code of Conduct. Violations of this Code may result in maintaining disciplinary action.

    II. Code of Conduct for Students

    This Code shall apply to all students of various programmes on the University premises and any on-line/off-campus programmes.

      1. The Principal and Heads of Department shall familiarise the students with this code of conduct by taking appropriate measures.
      2. All the students must comply with attendance requirements and have a compulsory attendance as stipulated in the Academic Regulations.
      3. They shall make themselves familiar with the Academic Regulations and adhere to them strictly.
      4. Students shall not indulge in any kind of cheating in examinations or plagiarism of any sort. They shall maintain academic integrity to uphold the Vision and Values of the
        University. Students indulging in Malpractice shall be dealt with as per the provisions of JNAFAU Disciplinary Action for Malpractice/Improper Conduct in Examinations.
      5. Students shall not be permitted to use their mobile phones in classrooms and labs and shall keep them in silent mode. During examinations, they shall follow the protocol as directed by the Invigilators/Chief Superintendent.
      6. Every student shall maintain proper discipline, integrity and dignity in the University Campus and shall behave politely and respectfully with the Faculty Members, Staff Members and other students of the University.
      7. In case any student causes any damage/breakage fully or partially to any property, article, equipment, apparatus which belongs to the University, by mistake or deliberately,
        the University shall have all the rights to recover the damages caused by him/her and impose moneta him/her.
      8. During the entire duration of their programme, students shall not enroll themselves in any other full-time programme in any other University/College/Institution.
      9. The students shall not be involved in any form of ragging. The University takes a strict view of ragging and any cases of such behaviour shall be dealt with as per the UGC “Curbing the menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, Regulations, 2009.” (Including amendments to the same)
      10. The students shall carry their Identity Card issued by the University, every day.
      11. A day scholar is not allowed to stay in the University hostel without written permission and authorization of the warden and senior authorities of the University.
      12. In case any day scholar found staying in the Hostel Premises, they will be liable to pay
      13. Students shall park their personal vehicle(s) in the University parking entirely on their own risk and in case of any mis-happening to it i.e. theft, damage, breakage, loss etc. they will not claim any compensation from the University.
      14. During any visits on any educational/industrial tour or extracurricular activity the students shall be responsible for their own behaviour, safety and security. The student
        shall be permitted to join any tour only with approval from parents/guardians and upon submitting an Undertaking signed by him and his guardian,
      15. They shall maintain proper discipline, peace and abide by the rules and circulars issued by the University from time to time and in case of any default by them, the University can take action against them including cancellation of their admission and debarring their entry in the University Campus including all its facilities.
      16. Students shall take prior permission for any group activities, celebrations and for putting up any form of decorations and banners.


    III. General Code of Conduct for all Employees

    The University expects its employees to foster an environment which reflects the value of caring, learning, integrity, and respect, adhering to high ethical standards while performing their duties.

    The Employees:

      1. Shall maintain absolute integrity at all times.
      2. Shall maintain impartiality in the discharge of official duties.
      3. Shall not be absent without sanctioned leave.
      4. Shall maintain a responsible and decent standard of conduct in the University premises and in private life.
      5. Must render courteous services to the public.
      6. Must maintain political neutrality.
      7. Must keep away from demonstrations organized by political organizations.
      8. Must refrain themselves and their family from joining any organization that is involved in subversive/criminal activities.
      9. If arrested, must inform their respective superior in the office.
      10. Shall avoid consumption of intoxicating substances in office or in public place.
      11. Must not travel abroad without information/permission of the university and must not express any view on Indian or foreign affairs while visiting foreign countries.
      12. Must not express any view prejudicial to the interest of the nation & sovereignty and integrity of India, public order and morality.
      13. Must not make the statements in the social media against the University that will tarnish the image of the University and are detrimental to healthy ecosystem of the University.
      14. In the interaction with girls students/ Women employees everyone must show respect for them and refrain from making any comments/usage of words that will bring down the dignity and self-respect of women and their work ethics.
      15. It must always be ensured that women are represented adequately at different levels of administrative & governance and their voice is heard and included in all the deliberations that take place.


    IV. Common Code of Conduct for Stakeholders of the University

      1. The University takes a strict view of any form of sexual harassment and all students/faculty members/employees shall be bound by the provisions of The Sexual
        Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. They shall behave respectfully and decently with every person on the campus.
      2. They shall not indulge in any illegal, unlawful or criminal activity, malpractice, misconduct, fraud.
      3. They shall not get involved in any form of substance abuse, including consumption of liquor, drugs, smoking or any other kind of addiction in any manner in the University
        premises. In case they found indulging in any of the above the University shall take appropriate action against them.
      4. No employee, teaching or non-teaching, or any student, shall talk about colleagues or students in a derogatory manner, and indulge in malicious behaviour, and try to willfully
        harm the reputation of others. The University expects dignified and respectful behaviour from all the stakeholders on its campus.
      5. No employee, teaching or non-teaching, or any student, shall travel abroad without permission and approval, and sanction of leave for the same.
      6. All students as well as employees have an obligation to use the infrastructure and facilities of the University carefully, and be responsible for their upkeep and maintenance.
      7. Fast or negligent/rash driving in the Campus, and use of the University premises for parking in an unauthorised manner will attract appropriate action. Any such incidents
        shall be brought to the notice of the University authorities.
      8. All stakeholders on the campus shall maintain political neutrality and not form associations, Student Unions or Councils etc., without permission from the University
        authorities.
      9. It is expected that every employee will comply with the applicable Central and State Government laws as well as the policies and procedures of the University. The standards
        of conduct in this Code of Conduct provide guidance for making decisions and sets down the commitment of the University for Responsible Behavior.
      10. Anybody found trespassing or misbehaving in the University premises shall be liable to be checked by the security guards. Appropriate action shall be taken for any such
        incidents.


    Problem Resolution

    The Vice-Chancellor shall ensure that appropriate administrative systems are set in place for implementing this Code as required. The Code shall be disseminated to students and employees as required to ensure effective implementation.
