Planning has its roots in engineering, law, architecture, public health and the social sciences. Planners today combine design, analytical and communication skills to help communities manage change. Planning are both people-oriented and future-oriented. Its future is full of opportunities and challenges. In particular, technological advances in communications and computers are changing the shape and form of cities, and how planning for the future will take place.

Planners care about the future of our communities and want to contribute solutions to our pressing social, economic and environmental problems. They are in fact one of the key contributors to making urban and rural life workable, livable and prosperous planner works with communities to provide research, reason analysis and recommendations in urban, regional environmental and social issues. Experts in public participation processes and conflict resolution, planners help develop solutions that are practical and effective.

Planners link knowledge and action in ways that improve public and private development decisions, which effect people, places and environment. To do this, planners must have knowledge and experience in a wide range of topics.

The aim is to impart knowledge, skills and attitude needed to pursue a career in urban planning, research, policy-making and management. It is essentially multi-disciplinary in nature- the subjects related to Urban and Regional planning include Urban Economics, Sociology Legislation, Development Theories, Politics, Transportation, Services, Housing, Landscape, etc.

Course Structure:
The Curriculum is a full -time four years course and is divided into eight semesters. In the first seven semesters, the students have to devote full time to the study of different subjects while 8th semester consists of practical training along with a project work.

The curriculum structured to include major thrust areas like:

  • IT skills- AUTOCAD, GIS, Web Technologies
  • Analytical skills- Quantitative Methods, Mathematical Models, Project Appraisal
  • Communication skills – Oral, Written, Graphic Communication and Technical Presentations and
  • Infrastructure and environment related issues addressing technical knowledge, the existing policies and programs of the government.

Eligibility:
Intermediate i.e. 10+2 M.P.C & Qualify in EAMCET.

Job opportunities:
This degree gives the student a wide range of professional options.In terms of securing employment, both public and private sectors offer a range of jobs. The students after graduation can get employed in the following offices/firms.
